Brittany Okon Earns East Coast Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – The University of the District of Columbia's Brittany Okon was named East Coast Conference Field Athlete of the Week for her performance in the Captains Classic & Combined Events meet this past Friday and Saturday.

For the 2^nd consecutive week, Okon had a season-best leap in the Long Jump event as her leap of 5.48M placed her 3^rd among 27 competitors on Saturday, April 15^th. That leap garnered six points for the Firebirds' team total.

Okon has now won three separate ECC weekly honors: Track Athlete of the Week for Week 1 – March 27^th, and Field Athlete of the Week twice for Week 2 – April 3^rd and Week 4 – April 17^th.

Meanwhile, UDC freshman Niasia Harding was named to the ECC Weekly Honor roll for her performance over the weekend. Harding ran the 2^nd leg of the winning Firebirds' 4x100M Relay team that bested eight other teams with a time of 47.64s, she placed 2^nd out of 28 competitors in the 400M with a time of 57.71s, and she took 5^th in the 100M with a time of 12.60s.

Okon, Harding and the Firebirds will travel to West Nyack, NY this weekend to compete in the East Coast Conference Championships on Saturday, April 22^nd.
