Brittany Okon Earns East Coast Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – The University of the District of Columbia's Brittany Okon was named East Coast Conference Field Athlete of the Week for her performance in the Captains Classic & Combined Events meet this past Friday and Saturday.

For the 2nd consecutive week, Okon had a season-best leap in the Long Jump event as her leap of 5.48M placed her 3rd among 27 competitors on Saturday, April 15th. That leap garnered six points for the Firebirds' team total.

Okon has now won three separate ECC weekly honors: Track Athlete of the Week for Week 1 – March 27th, and Field Athlete of the Week twice for Week 2 – April 3rd and Week 4 – April 17th.

Meanwhile, UDC freshman Niasia Harding was named to the ECC Weekly Honor roll for her performance over the weekend. Harding ran the 2nd leg of the winning Firebirds' 4x100M Relay team that bested eight other teams with a time of 47.64s, she placed 2nd out of 28 competitors in the 400M with a time of 57.71s, and she took 5th in the 100M with a time of 12.60s.

Okon, Harding and the Firebirds will travel to West Nyack, NY this weekend to compete in the East Coast Conference Championships on Saturday, April 22nd.
