Jerily Benjamin Earns CoSIDA Women’s Track & Field First Team Academic All-District Honor

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia's Jerily Benjamin was selected to the Capital One Academic All-District 1 Women's Track & Field Team, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday, May 26th.

Benjamin is now eligible for Academic All-American honors, which will be voted on in early June. To qualify for Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher, have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at the institution and be nominated by the school's sports information director.

The Queens, NY native was part of a 4x400M Relay team that twice earned All-American status, set a school record, and was the school's first event champion at the Colonial Relays. She is also an eight-time East Coast Conference champion in the 4x400M Relay from 2013-2016 and a four-time ECC Indoor champion (2013-2016) in the 400M event.

A Health Education major with a 3.62 cumulative grade point average, Benjamin also earned in 2015 the UDC Athletic Department's most distinguished honor for character and academic and athletic excellence – the Reslyn W. Henley Memorial Award. That same year, she took home the ECC Indoor Track & Field Scholar Athlete of the Year, and having just recently graduated Magna Cum Laude, she was selected to study abroad in Beijing, China through the HBCU China Scholarship Network.
