Firebird Women’s Track & Field Capture 3rd Place at ECC Indoor Championship

Staten Island, New York – "This has been the most competitive ECC Indoor Championship and it did not disappoint", stated University of the District of Columbia Head Coach Joel Phillip.  "I am very proud of the way the ladies went out and competed.   We have a talented group; the ladies gave their all."  The Firebird Women's Indoor Track & Field team finished 3rd out of 11 teams on Saturday, February 16th at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Center, in Staten Island, New York.

In her first ECC Indoor Championship, junior Cierra Roberts placed second in the long jump, 3rd in the 400m race, 4th in the 200m, and 6th in the 60m dash.    Senior Shaneika Bowra had a great meet finishing 2nd in both the 60m and 200m races.   Also in her first ECC Indoor Championship, sophomore Tishana Dorn placed 2nd in the 500m race.  

In a battle to the finish line, freshman Shanise Rose placed second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.01 (the winning time was 9.00).  Junior Shannell Hibbert placed 3rd in the 60m hurdles, was 5th in the 60m dash as well as 200m).  Junior Temera Duncan was 5th in the 400m race.

In the final event of the night, the UDC 4x400 meter team of Temera Duncan, Tishana Dorn, Shannell Hibbert and Cierra Roberts raced to victory continuing the 7 year Firebird winning streak in that event.

"Their focus during events and support for each other is what lead us to everything we achieved this indoor season.   I am very proud of this group", concluded Coach Phillip.
