Women’s Indoor Track & Field Perform Well During The Frank Colden Invitational

Philadelphia, PA – The University of the District of Columbia Women's Indoor Track & Field team competed well at the Frank Colden Invitational hosted by Ursinus University over this past Saturday.

Junior Cierra Roberts had a spectacular meet winning the 400meter race with a time of 1:00.54, and placed second in the 200meter dash (26.41).  Cierra's long jump (5.61m) was a personal record for the Washington, DC native.    Senior Shaneika Bowra had a fine meet, winning the 60meter dash (7.81) and placing fourth in the 200meter race with a time of 26.77.

Freshman Shanise Rose took the second place spot in the 60meter hurdles (9.63) and fellow freshman Nyla Houston placed third in the 60meter run (7.69) and earned a personal best throw of 11.10 meters in the shot put.  In just her second run of the season in the race, sophomore Tishana  Dorn improved her time in the 800meter race with a time of 2.28.28 (her previous time was 2.33.31).  Freshman Patricia McLean earned the fifth place spot in the 200meter race(27.12), junior Shannell Hibbert took fifth in the 60meter dash (7.92) and junior Temera Duncan was sixth in the 400meter race (1:02.05).  

The Firebird relay squads were splendid with the team of Temera Duncan, Shannell Hibbert, Aisha Dozier and Cierra Roberts capturing first place in the 4x400meter race with a time of 4:10.12.   The 4x200meter team of Patricia McLean, Shaneika Bowra, Cierra Roberts and Shannell Hibbert captured second place (1:46.01).

Head Coach Joel Phillip was pleased stating, "This by far was the best meet we had for the season.   I love the way we competed a this meet.   Despite being loaded up in multiple events, the ladies did a good job being mentally tough through each of their events.   They were really focused and locked into their events; the results we had showed it".

As the Firebirds continue to prepare for the upcoming East Coast Conference Championship, the team travels to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for the UMES Invitational & Combined Events on Saturday, February 8th and 9th, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
