Strong Showing for Firebirds at the VMI Winter Relays

LEXINGTON, VA – The University of the District of Columbia women's indoor track and field team competed in the VMI Winter Relays on February 9th, hosted by Virginia Military Institute at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

Another remarkable display by the Firebirds was highlighted by numerous season best performances. Sophomore Temera Duncan lead the way with a season's best in the 400M with a time of 59.42s to place her 6th overall out of 39 competitors. She then went on to run in the 4x400M relay where she helped the District of Columbia finish an impressive 7th overall with a time of 4:04.61.

Sophomore Niasia Harding was just as outstanding as her teammate Duncan finishing 7th in the 400M with a time of 59.46s, and then she competed in the 4x400M to give UDC 7th overall.

The 4x400M relay team consisted of Temera Duncan, junior Shaneika Bowra, freshman Dajour Jones, and sophomore Niasia Harding.

Junior Shakeithia Nicholson went on to put in a fine showing in the long jump when she leaped to 4.82M to place her 26th out of 46 overall.

The Firebirds will be looking to continue their fine form when they compete in the East Coast Conference Championships, Friday February 23rd in Staten Island, New York.
