Firebirds Break Personal Records at UMES Invite.

PRINCESS ANNE, MD – The University of the District of Columbia women's indoor track & field team competed in the UMES Invite/combined events Friday afternoon hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at William P. Hytche Athletic Center.

Among the impressive UDC highlights at the Eastern Shore meet was the performances of junior Shaneika Bowra who produced two personal records in both the 60M with a time of 7.95s to finish 4th overall. Also, Bowra competed in the 400M and managed another personal best of 1:03.34 to finish 8th overall.

Sophomore Shannell Hibbert also made a brilliant performance with a season's best in the 60M hurdles with a time of 9.25s to finish 5th in the overall standings. Hibbert continued her form into the 200M event finishing 5th overall in a time of 26.46s.

In the 500M event, freshman Dajour Jones made an excellent show for herself finishing 1st with a time of 1:23.73 to also make that a season's best.

Also, junior Shakeithia Nicholson finished the day with a respectable leap of 4.82M in the Long Jump to finish 11th overall.

The Firebirds will be back in action Friday, February 9th as they compete in the VMI Winter Relays at Lexington, Virginia.
