Firebirds Impress at Spartan Invitational

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The University of the District of Columbia women's indoor track & field team competed across 10 events in the Spartan Invitational Friday afternoon hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

 

Among the many UDC highlights of the meet was the 4x200M Relay team of Stacy-Ann Rowe, Shannell Hibbert, Jasmine Walker and Shaneika Bowra blazing a time of 1:47.24 in its first running of the event this season to finish 5th of 15 teams overall. Also, Hibbert advancing to the Finals in the 60M Hurdles with a time of 9.53s. She'd finish 7th overall out of 38 competitors.

 

Sophomore Niasia Harding was only .51 seconds off of her career best time in the 200M, as she finished in 26.51s and placed 3rd in her section and 26th of 79 total competitors. She also placed 3rd of five in Section 2 of the 500M event with a time of 1:22.12.

 

In the 400M event, sophomore Temera Duncan placed 17th of 55 sprinters with a time of 1:00.68.

 

Senior Kenlyn Duncan beat her previous season-best time in the 800M event by a little over two seconds as she finished in 2:46.82. She finished 3rd of eight in Section 3, and 21st of 34 competitors overall.

 

Senior Dabrin Snorton was a little under two seconds off of her career best mile time of 6:15.53 (run at the Fastrack Metro Season Opener) as she finished in 6:17.23 to place 9th of 15 in Section 3 and 26th of 38 overall.

 

To end the day, sophomore DC native Shakeithia Nicholson leapt out to 4.34M to place 7th of 13 in the Long Jump Flight 1, 12th of 37 overall.

 

The Firebirds will be back in action next week, January 20th as they compete locally in the Terrapin Invitational in Landover, MD.
