Firebirds Begin 2017-18 Indoor Track & Field Season at Fastrack Metro Season Opener

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The University of the District of Columbia Women's Indoor Track & Field team competed in the Fastrack Metro Season Opener on Friday, December 1st to begin its 2017-18 Indoor season.

Twelve UDC student-athletes competed across nine sprint and distance running events, and the Firebirds collected three top-10 finishes at an event that included Division I, II and III schools.

UDC was particularly successful in the 400M event where sophomore Niasia Harding took 7th place of 23 runners in a time of 1:00.15, and sophomore Temera Duncan was 8th in 1:00.51.

Also, in the 800M event, senior Dabrin Snorton took 9th place out of 15 competitors with a time of 2:46.97. She was 2nd of seven in Section 2.

Head Coach Joel Phillip tested out two 4x400M Relay teams in the season opener. The team of Harding, freshman Aisha Dozier, sophomore Shannell Hibbert, and senior Kenlyn Duncan placed 13th out of 18 teams with a time of 4:18.80. This was tops among Division II and III schools. The other UDC 4x400M Relay team consisted of: sophomore Temera Duncan, freshman Dajour Jones, junior Shaneika Bowra, and junior Shakeithia Nicholson, and they finished in 14th place with a time of 4:20.89.

UDC will now break for the winter holidays, and the Firebirds will return to action at the George Mason hosted Father Diamond Invitational on January 6th.
