UDC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Selected 4th in the ECC Preseason Poll

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – The University of the District of Columbia Women's Indoor Track & Field team was selected 4th in the East Coast Conference Preseason Poll in a vote by the league's coaches. The Firebirds earned 54 points in the poll.

UDC, under first-year head coach Joel Phillip, has competed in four meets thus far, with one final tune-up meet scheduled for Saturday, February 4th in Newport News, VA before the East Coast Conference Championship meet on Friday, February 24th in Staten Island, NY.

Standout performers thus far have been freshmen sprinters Niasia Harding and Temera Duncan and long jumper Brittany Okon. Harding's season-best performances include a 26.21s finish in the 200M and a 59.76s in the 400M, Duncan's run a 26.54s 200M and a 59.95s 400M, and Okon has a season-best long jump leap of 5.23M.

The Firebirds were just one point behind No. 3 Georgian Court, while St. Thomas Aquinas was 2nd with 67 points, and Roberts Wesleyan College was the unanimous favorite with nine first-place votes and 81 points.
