Firebirds Showcase Skills at Spartan Regional Invite

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The University of the District of Columbia Women's Indoor Track & Field team competed at the Spartan Regional Invite on Friday, January 13th at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

The Firebirds competed strongly across eight different events, with seven individual top-10 finishes.

Three UDC student-athletes cracked the top-10 in the 400M event, including two in the top-five. Freshman Niasia Harding took 1st in Heat 3 and placed 4th overall out of 28 with a time of 59.90s. In 5th place was freshman Temera Duncan with a time of 59.95s, and in 10th place overall was freshman Deasia Greer at 1:01.72.

Harding also placed in the top-5 in the 200M, as her 26.21s finish was good tops in Heat 6 and good for 4th place overall in a large field of 53 competitors.

In the 60M hurdles, freshman Shannell Hibbert and junior Stacy-Ann Rowe took 7th and 8th place, respectively, in a competitive field of 20. Hibbert was 4th in Heat 1 with a time of 9.66s and Rowe was 5th in Heat 2 with a time of 9.67s.

Also, senior Brittany Okon earned a 6th place finish out of 26 competitors in the Long Jump as she leapt out to a distance of 5.03M.

Up next, the Firebirds will compete at the Terrapin Invitational in Landover, MD on Saturday, January 21st.
