Firebirds Resume Indoor Track & Field Season; Compete at GMU’s Father Diamond Invitational

FAIRFAX, VA – The University of the District of Columbia Women's Indoor Track & Field team resumed its 2016-17 season after the holiday break as the Firebirds competed in the Father Diamond Invitational hosted by George Mason University on Saturday, January 7th.

The highlight of the meet for the Firebirds came in the 400M dash as freshman Niasia Harding showcased her speed with a 59.76s finish to place 5th out of 19 competitors. Another Firebird freshman, Temera Duncan, finished 8th overall in 1:00.77.

UDC also impressed in the 200M dash where freshman Shannell Hibbert placed 10th of 21 competitors with a time of 26.77s, and freshman Deasia Greer took 12th with a time of 26.93s. Additionally, junior Stacy-Ann Rowe placed 5th of 18 competitors in the 60M Hurdle preliminaries with a time of 9.09s, but failed to qualify for the finals after she ran a 9.97s in the semis.

The Firebirds finished the meet in 7th place with a total of eight team points.

Next up, UDC will travel to Staten Island, NY to compete in the Division II Spartan Invitational on Friday, January 13th.
