Simone Grant Earns East Coast Conference Field Athlete of the Week
CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – University of the District of Columbia senior Simone Grant was named East Coast Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for her performance in Saturday's Terrapin Invitational meet hosted by University of Maryland.
Grant leaped out to a season-best of 5.51M in the Long Jump at the Terrapin Invitational, just getting edged for the best jump by a collegiate athlete on the day (which was 5.52M). Her mark was just shy of the 5.57M NCAA Provisional Mark.
In other news, graduate Jerily Benjamin earned Honor Roll distinction in this week's ECC Report. Benjamin won Heat 2 and placed 4th among 22 competitors in the 300M with a time of 41.68s.
The Firebirds, currently ranked No. 10 in the East Region, are back in action on Saturday at the Christopher Newport University Vince Brown Invitational.
