Five Firebirds Selected for All-Region Honors
NEW ORLEANS – The University of the District of Columbia Women's Track and Field team received more accolades today as the All-Region athletes were announced by the USTFCCCA. Five Firebirds were honored in the East Region for their outstanding performances during the 2013-2014 Division II Indoor Track and Field season. Only the top-five individuals in each event, and top-three relay teams are given this honor per region.
Kaydian Jones (Journalism - Kingston, Jamaica/St. Andrew HS) earned All-Region recognition for her individual performances in the 60M, 200M, and Long Jump. She was also named as part of the honored UDC 4x400M relay team. Shauna-Kay Creary (Accounting - Kingston, Jamaica/St. Andrew HS) earned an individual selection for her top-five regional performance in the Triple Jump.
The three other members of the 4x400M relay team rounded out the student-athletes selected from UDC. Sophomore Marlena Wright (Journalism - Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton HS), sophomore Simone Grant (Health Education - Bronx, NY/Pelham Prep Academy), and junior Jerily Benjamin (Health Education - Queens, NY/Phillip Randolph HS) consistently helped to earn pivotal relay points throughout the 2013-2014 season. The five honored Firebirds add to a total of 525 Women's Indoor Track and Field athletes selected as All-Region performers.
