Kaydian Jones Earns East Coast Conference Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Senior Kaydian Jones of the University of the District of Columbia Women's Indoor Track & Field team has earned the East Coast Conference Track Athlete of the Week for her performance in Saturday's Father Diamond Invitational.

Jones (Journalism – Kingston, Jamaica/St. Andrew HS) excelled in three different events during Saturday's meet hosted by George Mason, but she was honored by the ECC in particular for her performance in the 200m and 4x400m events.  In the 200m, she won Heat 4 and placed 3rd out of 33 competitors with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time of 25.37 seconds – good for 9th in the nation in Division II. She returned to the track at the end of the meet to lead off the Firebirds' 4x400m relay team, allotting UDC a sizeable lead which led to an easy win in Section 3. Jones and her relay team was 8th overall among 16 relay teams competing, and their time of 3:58.84 on Saturday is the 11th fastest time run by any Division II team so far this season.

Georgian Court University's All-American Tiffany Okieme won the ECC Field Athlete of the Week for her 1st place finish in both the Shot Put (15.16m) and the Weight Throw (19.47m) at the Bucknell Mini Meet. However, Jones also had a noteworthy performance in the Long Jump event as the top collegiate finisher at her meet with a leap of 5.49m, just short of the NCAA Provisional Mark of 5.54.

Jones and the Firebirds are back in action on Saturday, January 18th when they compete in the Terrapin Invitational at the PG Sports Complex.
