Shauna-Kay Creary Becomes First Firebird Long Jumper to Compete in NCAA Championships Meet

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Junior Shauna-Kay Creary became the first-ever athlete to compete at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in the Long Jump event on Friday, March 8th.

In three jumps, Creary's best mark of the day was 5.23M (18) 17-2), which was good for 19th place overall. Only the top-nine advanced to the Final Round.

This meet concludes a historic Indoor season for Creary (Accounting - Kingston, Jamaica/St. Andrew HS). Her selection to compete in the NCAA Championships was based on a 5.77M season-best long jump at the East Coast Conference Championship meet on February  23rd. She was named the Outstanding Athlete of the meet, ECC Athlete of the Year, USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week, and All-Region for her efforts.

Creary and the Indoor ECC champion Firebirds now have their sights set on the spring Outdoor season and another conference title.
