University of the District of Columbia Women's Indoor Track & Field Competes at Terrapin Invitational

LANDOVER, MD - The University of the District of Columbia women's indoor track and field team continued to show improvement in their second straight week of competition on Saturday at the Terrapin Indoor Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland at Prince George's County Sports Complex.

In the field events, junior Areial Clark (Kennesaw, GA - North Cobb HS) continues to impress in the shot put event, placing 15th of 30 competitors with a toss of 10.75M.

Meanwhile, the 4x400M relay team and several quality individual performances highlighted UDC's track portion of the meet. The Firebirds' team of Callister Jones (Fort Washington, MD - Oxon Hill HS), Kaydian Jones (Kingston, Jamaica - St. Andrew), Latoya Allen (Washington, DC - Dunbar Senior HS) and Kaneesha Hollis (Centreville, MD - North Caroline Senior HS) finished 2nd in Heat 3 and 13th overall with a time of 4:03.62.

In the 60M race, freshman Tatyana Commock (Washington, DC - McKinley Tech HS) ran an 8.12 for 5th place in Heat 7 and 25th overall out of 53 competitors. Sophomore Atiya Amis (Washington, DC - Dunbar Senior HS) also ran an 8.21 to place 4th in Heat 1 and 28th overall.

Kaydian Jones was  21st of 49 competitors with a time of 60.94 in the 400M race and was 4th in Heat 6. Hollis ran a 1:40.84 in the 600M for 3rd in Heat 4 and 11th overall out of 28 competitors. Callister Jones finished the 600M in 1:42.10 for 3rd in Heat 3 and 12th overall.

According to head coach Alton McKenzie, the team is benefitting from competing in a meet on a weekly basis.

"We're still working hard to get sharper on the track and fine-tuned technically (with field events athletes), but what's important is we're competing," McKenzie said of his team's performance Saturday in a meet that consisted of mostly Division I teams. "I'm looking forward to us competing consistently now that we're in the middle of the Indoor Season, and hoping that we will continue seeing improved results in our upcoming meets."
