Stella Sang’s Performance at NYU Qualifies Her for NCAA Indoor Track Championships

New York, NY: February 27, 2009—Junior runner Stella Sang (Kapsabet, Kenya) punched her ticket to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Houston, Texas with an automatic qualifying time and indoor school record in the 800m, running 2:12.32 tonight at the NYU Fastrack Invitational in New York, New York. 

Later, the 4 x 400 team consisting of Sang, sophomore Saleena Green (St. Catherine, Jamaica), freshman Latoya Allen (Washington, DC), and freshman Kaneesha Hollis(Greensboro, MD) ) broke the indoor school record by running a provisional qualifying time of 3:51.91 to take third place in the event.

Head Coach Marc J. Harrison is pleased with his team’s turnaround. Harrison says about the team's recent momentum swing:  "Coach Samuels and Coach Carter are doing a great job with these ladies..."On Stellah Sang's school record 800m:  Stellah told me before the race that she was going to shock herself today, and for me to pack my bags for Texas..."On the relay's record setting performance: "We tried a different order tonight, I told Kaneesha to bring it home. And she did her job! She PR'd right when we needed it."

The NCAA Championships will be held March 13-14, in Houston, Texas at the University of Houston.
