Lady Firebirds Indoor Track Team Made Presence Felt at HBCU Meet

Landover, Maryland: February 3, 2007-- Sophomore sprinter Maurisa Williams (Sicklerville, NJ) led the Lady Firebirds in competition during the Potomac Valley HBCU Championship Invitational in Landover, Maryland, today. Williams won the women’s 400 meter dash with a time of 57:79, which is the provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA regional. Teammate Ericka Cooke (sophomore-Willingboro, NJ) finished 13th in the heat.

The 4x200 meter relay team consisting of Ericka Cook (FR.-Willingboro, NJ), Cottrell Martin (JR. –Freeport, Bahamas), Siobhan Marsh (Fr.-Germantown, MD) and Maurisa Williams came in 5th place in this event. Anene Wynn (JR.-Durham, NC) finished 5th in the women’s high jump competition.

UDC Student Affairs Vice President Dr. Clemmie Solomon was among the crowd of fans and alumni who were there to cheer the team on.

The Lady Firebirds will compete next at the Virginia Tech Challenge on February 17, 2007, in Blacksburg, Virginia.
