Firebirds Secure First Conference Victory with Win Over Daemen

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's women's tennis team defeated Daemen University 5-2, in their first conference match up of the season, Friday afternoon at the UDC Tennis Courts. UDC improved to 1-0 in conference play, while Daemen fell to 1-1.

Claudia Bahamon and Célia Bastin both went 2-0 on the day, winning both their doubles and singles matches. This duo cruised to a 6-0 victory at No.3 doubles, but the Firebirds would drop the doubles point after Daemen rallied back to win at No.1 and 2. 

Bahamon tied the score 1-1 at No.5 singles blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Laura Marie gave UDC the 2-0 lead winning 6-0, 6-2 at No.1 before Mariona Franco and Sofia Bellucco sealed the deal with wins at No.3 and 4. 

Bastin ended her day blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0, securing the last win of the day for the Firebirds. 

Up next, UDC (3-0, 1-0 ECC) will continue conference play tomorrow against D'Youville with a kick off time of 3:00pm.
