UDC Women’s Tennis Suffers 6-1 Loss vs. NYIT

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team had its seven-match win streak snapped as the Firebirds suffered a 6-1 loss to six-time reigning East Coast Conference champion, New York Institute of Technology on Friday afternoon at Southeast Tennis & Learning Center.

The Firebirds (8-2, 4-2 ECC) fought valiantly at No. 1 and 2 doubles, but surrendered the doubles point for just the first time in a dual match this season.

In singles play, freshman Joanna Skrzypczynska earned the lone UDC point of the day with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles over the ECC Preseason Player of the Year and reigning ECC and ITA East Region Rookie of the Year, Ivana Andric. Skrzypczynska, a three-time ECC Rookie of the Week honoree this year, has now won eight straight matches and improved to 10-2 overall, 9-1 in dual matches and 5-1 vs. the ECC.

UDC will host ECC foe LIU Post for its final regular season match tomorrow at the Southeast Tennis & Learning Center. The match begins at 2 p.m., following a Senior Day ceremony at 1:45 for the two Firebird seniors: Paula Avellan and Anastasia Khomyachenko.
