Joanna Skrzypczynska Earns 2nd Straight ECC Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week

WEST BABYLON, NY – Freshman Joanna Skrzypczynska was named East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week for the 2nd consecutive week.

Skrzypczynska won both her No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles matches in two shutout victories for the Firebirds last week.

First, at Millersville on Wed., Oct. 3, she teamed up with Anastasiia Danylova for a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, and then she earned a resounding, 6-0, 6-0 win over Megan Rovenolt. The following match at home, Sat., Oct. 6 vs. conference foe, Daemen, she paired with Estefania Castrillon for a dominant, 6-0 No. 2 doubles win, and then she cruised past Courtney Otis, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

The Poland native is 7-2 in singles play overall this season, including a 6-1 mark in dual matches and a 3-1 record against the ECC. In doubles play, she is 8-1 overall, 7-0 in dual matches, and 4-0 in conference.

Skrzypczynska's teammate, sophomore transfer Simoné Pärn, was also named to the ECC's weekly honor roll for her performance this past week. Pärn went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and at No. 1 doubles.

The Firebirds are 6-1 (3-1 ECC) heading into today's match vs. regional non-conference opponent, Wilmington. UDC has won five straight matches – its longest win-streak since the 2011-12 season.
