UDC Women’s Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision at Queens

FLUSHING, NY – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team was defeated by host Queens College, 5-2 in East Coast Conference action Sat., Sept. 8.

The Firebirds (1-1, 1-1 ECC) earned the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and 2 flights, but the preseason ECC favorite Knights charged back with wins in five of the six singles matches.

Sophomore transfer Simoné Pärn earned impressive wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles this afternoon. First, she teamed with junior transfer Marija Milic for a thrilling, 7-6(6) doubles win vs. Reehan Rashad and Luisa Auffarth. She then went on to beat Rashad, a First Team All-ECC selection last season, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.

Next up, UDC will compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Championship Fri., Sept. 14-17.
