Firebirds Soar Past Molloy, 7-0 in Season Opener

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY – The visiting University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team swept singles and doubles play en-route to a 7-0 shutout victory vs. East Coast Conference foe Molloy College in both teams' season opener Friday afternoon at Hempstead Lake Indoor Tennis Center.

The Firebirds (1-0, 1-0 ECC), picked to finish 4th in the ECC preseason poll, earned straight set victories in five of the six singles matches and one of the three doubles matches.

Team newcomers, sophomore Simoné Pärn, junior Marija Milic and freshman Joanna Skrzypczynska were all victorious in the Firebird debuts at No. 1-3 singles, respectively. Pärn and Milic also teamed up for a 6-2 No. 1 doubles win, and Skrzypczynska partnered with returning sophomore Anastasiia Danylova for a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

Danylova, junior Estefania Castrillon and senior Anastasia Khomyachenko each earned straight set singles victories at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles. Khomyachenko and Castrillon also combined for a 6-0 No. 3 doubles win.

UDC is back in action tomorrow at noon as the Firebirds take on Queens College (NY) in Flushing, NY.
