Firebirds Women's Tennis Concludes Regular Season With Shutout Victory On Senior Day

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team dominated in a shutout victory against Virginia St., 9-0, on Senior Day Tuesday afternoon at the UDC Tennis Courts.

The Firebirds finished off their regular season with a win to improve their overall record to 15-3. Senior Maria Vitkina (Ekaterinburg, Russia/Linguistic Gymnasium 13), who was honored for Senior Day before the match, continued to add to her great career with an impressive 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles and a strong performance at No. 3 singles, defeating Nakesha Harry, 6-2, 6-3. In her two year career at UDC she amassed a singles record of 26-7 and a doubles record of 21-13. Maria was also named First Team All-East Coast Conference last season, and Second Team All-East Coast Conference this season.
UDC put on a strong performance against Virginia State to end their regular season as they look forward to the NCAA Championships. The Firebirds finish their regular season with seven shutout victories and a four-match winning streak.
The UDC women's tennis team now awaits the NCAA Championships, which begins on April 29th.
