April 10, 2011- Washington, DC- University of the District of Columbia Head Men’s & Women’s Tennis Coach T. Richard Mahaffey, III selected freshman Jessica Nunez (Electrical Engineering-Guayaquil, Ecuador) and sophomore Tadai Abilla (Television Production-Galloway, NJ) as the recipients of this year’s Women’s Tennis Team top awards. The MVP Award was presented to Nunez, while Abilla received the Coaches Award. The Awards were presented at the University of the District of Columbia Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Annual Awards Banquet, in April, at Maggiano’s in northwest Washington.

Baltimore, MD: April 3, 2010—Junior Kristyna Nepivodova (Economics-Breznice, Czech Republic) and freshman Sofia Leon (Psychology- Quito, Ecuador) led the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women’s Tennis Team to a, 7-0, sweep of the Coppin State University Eagles on Sunday at the Coppin State Tennis Courts in Baltimore, Maryland. They were undefeated in all of their matches.

Women’s Tennis Gets Impressive Win Over Virginia State

Petersburg, VA: March 29, 2011- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Tennis Team secured an impressive, 7-2, win over the Virginia State University Trojans on yesterday in Petersburg, Virginia. They opened the match with a 2-1 doubles win, and then went on to win five of the six singles matches. They improved to 6-9 for the season with this win.

Central Islip, N.Y.: October 8, 2010—Two members of the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women’s Tennis Team were recently named to East Coast Conference (ECC) 2010 All-Conference First Team. Freshman Jessica Nunez (Electrical Engineering- Guayaquil, Ecuador) and senior Maria Vitkina (Sociology- Ekaterinburg, Russia) have been dominant players for the Firebirds this fall season.

Washington, DC: October 9, 2010-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Tennis Team had a big winning weekend, defeating the Chowan University Hawks, 8-1, today at the UDC Tennis Courts in Washington, DC. The win was their best thus far this season and improves their record to 2-8

Washington, DC: October 3, 2010-- Freshman Jessica Nunez (Electrical Engineering-Guayaquil, Ecuador) and senior Maria Vitkina (Sociology-Ekaterinburg, Russia) won their singles and doubles matches during the tennis match today between the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Tennis Team and the C. W. Post Pioneers, which they lost, 6-3, this afternoon at the UDC Tennis Courts in Washington, DC. With this loss, UDC fell to 1-7 for the season.

Rockville Centre, NY: October 2, 2010-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Tennis Team was topped today by the Molloy College Lions, who defeated them, 6-3, in Centreville, New York. Standout performances by freshman Jessica Nunez (Electrical Engineering-Guayaquil, Ecuador)and senior Maria Vitkina (Sociology-Ekaterinburg, Russia) were the highlights of the UDC effort, as they won their doubles and singles matches.

Old Westbury NY: September 24, 2010-- The New York Institute of Technology defeated the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Tennis Team, 3-6, this afternoon in Old Westbury, New York. In the #1 doubles match UDC Freshman Jessica Nunez (Electrical Engineering- Guayaquil, Ecuador) and senior Maria Vikina ( Sociology- Ekaterinburg, Russia) defeated Alexana Gaspari and Rebecca Stein, 8-0. In singles competition , Nunez defeated Gaspari 6-0,6-0, and Vitkina defeated Sarah Vivonetto, 6-0,6-0.
