Kianna Franklin led the field in draw controls in loss to Roberts Wesleyan in season opener.

Washington DC-  The University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse team fell to Roberts Wesleyan in their season and ECC opener on march 4th  at the UDC sports complex.

Junior Midfielder Kianna Franklin led the Firebirds and the field with eight draw controls, while junior goalkeeper Jada Foy led the firebirds with five ground balls. Collectively the Firebirds had 9 ground balls and 12 draw controls, which was only a few points shy of Roberts Wesleyan's 11 ground balls and 15 draw controls.

Despite their efforts, the Firebirds fell 25-0 to the Redhawks, making them 0-1 overall and in conference play. Robert Wesleyan improved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

"We've worked hard on implementing a lot of our concepts that we've been working on this year," said head coach Cassandra Haase. "The coaching staff is very proud of the growth that we have shown in such a short time. This was only day 1 and we can't wait to see what happens next."

The lady Firebirds will head to NY to face off against Molloy on March 9 at 12:00pm.
