WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse team completed two, two-hour volunteer events as "Boarding Partner Dog Walkers" for Lucky Dog Animal Rescue.

On October 5th and October 26th, four members of the Firebirds women's lacrosse team as well as head coach Cassandra Haase and assistant coach Zhane Ruffin, served as dog walkers for dogs at the rescue center waiting to be adopted. The walks give the dogs a break from "doggy daycare" as the student-athletes and coaches disperse and take the dogs on walks around the city.

According to Haase, this event was a win-win for both the dogs and the student-athletes.

"The team really enjoyed their experience, because it allowed them to get outside and make the dogs feel cared for," the 2nd year coach said. "Being around animals and walking the dogs was a great way to relieve some stress around midterms. We can't wait to volunteer with them in the future."

Lucky Dog is a volunteer-powered nonprofit dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected, and abandoned animals from certain euthanasia and finding them loving forever homes. It also educates the community and all pet parents on responsible pet parenting, including the importance of spay/neuter, obedience training and good nutrition.
