Betru Grabs her 1st Career Goal on Senior Day; Firebirds Fall in Season Finale at Home to NYIT 

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse team fell to East Coast Conference rivals New York Institute of Technology, 20-4, on senior day, Saturday afternoon at UDC Sports Complex. 

The Firebirds end the season 1-13 overall and 0-8 in conference play. Kianna Franklin led UDC's effort with two goals breaking the UDC record for most goals in a single season with 30. 

Franklin was supported by the efforts of freshman Shemara Jefferson with one goal and senior day was made memorable for Dagmawit Betru who scored a beautifully worked goal created by Amy Rock to earn her 1st goal for the UDC Firebirds in the last game of the season. 

Rock, ends the season with nine assists, equaling her own single season record of assists. 

NYIT Bears were steered by Alyssa Milano with eight goals who is the ECC's leading scorer with 83 goals. Shannon Donovan added four goals and two assists, with Karie Znaniecki earning three goals and six assists. 

After a slow first half, the District of Columbia struck back in the 2nd half to score three of their four goals and only allowing four goals through the defense. The Firebirds won a total of 14 draw controls to the visitors 11. 

Head Coach Cassandra Haase will return 13 of 14 student-athletes on this year's roster as they prepare for their season in Spring 2019.
