Firebirds Battle in Loss to Molloy

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse team lost 23-3 in a tough battle against East Coast Conference rivals Molloy, Saturday afternoon at the UDC Sports Complex. 

The Firebirds (1-4, 0-2 ECC) were impacted by injuries with no room for substitutions. They showed heart throughout the match to compete, however, Molloy put the game away in the 1st half winning it 16-2. 

Sophomore Kianna Franklin once again showed strong character to score two goals in the game, to take her total amount of goals to 10 for the season. 

A highlight of the game was the play of the third goal for UDC when goalkeeper Melan White picked up the ball in her own half, and with tremendous vision found freshman Jade Martinez in space for Martinez to place a fine shot into the opposition net. 

The spirited Firebirds again saw both goalkeepers Melan White and Jada Foy share each half playing outfield, and with both sharing duties in goal, Foy started the game making eight saves off 24 shots, and White saved four shots off 11 shots. 

Molloy (4-3, 1-0 ECC), the 2nd highest scoring team in the ECC saw four different players each share three goals in the game. Two of those players being in the top five ECC scorers so far this season both on 21 goals. 

The Firebirds will be looking to bounce back, Saturday, March 24th when they play away to LIU Post.
