GRAND LAKE, CO – The University of the District of Columbia Women's Lacrosse team was one of 46 Division II schools and 275 schools across NCAA Divisions I, II and III and the NAIA to be named a Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad as announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.

Every school with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher earned Academic Honor Squad honors. Six schools from the East Coast Conference earned this honor, including UDC with an overall GPA of 3.256.

The 2016 Firebirds women's lacrosse team has also had three individual student-athletes included on the IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll: junior Political Science major Dominique Dotson, junior English/Elementary Education major Danielle Falco, and senior English major, Cherakye Lopez.

In order to be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or better.

Head Coach Melynda Brown's program has now produced three Academic Honor Squad awards in as many years, and has had three Honor Roll selections each year, including this year. Lopez, who was also honored in 2015, became the second Firebird to earn Honor Roll distinction twice.
