UDC Women’s Lacrosse Defeated at Chestnut Hill

LAFAYETTE HILL, PA – The University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse team was defeated, 21-5 by host Chestnut Hill College on Thursday afternoon at Victory Field.

The Firebirds (1-4) were led offensively by senior attack Amber Walls and junior defender Dominique Dotson with two goals apiece. Also, sophomore defender Yara Oudat scored her first career goal. With 33 combined goals through five games this season, UDC has already surpassed last year's season goal total of 29.

Chestnut Hill (2-5) had nine different goal scorers, including seven with two or more. Rachel Perry (four goals, one assist), Jacklyn O'Leary (three goals, two assists), and Julia Galantich (three goals, two assists) led the way offensively for the Griffins as they set a season-high with 21 goals.

The hosts out-shot UDC 35-17, won the ground ball battle, 19-6, converted 11-of-16 clears to UDC's 4-of-14, and committed five fewer turnovers (23-18). CHC's goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang made four saves and allowed five goals in the victory, while UDC junior goalkeeper Dani Falco made seven saves in the loss.

Perry opened the scoring a little over three minutes into the action, and four minutes later, Walls answered for the Firebirds with the first of her two goals to force a 1-1 tie. Chestnut Hill went on to out-score UDC 5-1 over the next eight minutes, taking a 6-2 lead at the 13:19 mark.

Walls would score her 2^nd goal of the day and team-leading 11^th of the season at the 13:08 mark to bring UDC within three, 6-3, but the Griffins went on to out-score the Firebirds 8-1 the rest of the half and took a commanding 14-4 advantage into halftime.

Chestnut Hill then scored the first four goals of the second half and went on to out-score UDC 7-1 in the closing period to win by the lopsided score of 21-5.
