Two Firebird Student-Athletes Attend East Coast Conference SAAC Meeting at Queens College
FLUSHING, NY – University of the District of Columbia Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President Tiara Goode and sophomore SAAC member Dani Falco attended the East Coast Conference SAAC meeting hosted by Queens College in the President's Conference Room at the Rosenthal Library on Sunday, October 26th.
The meeting included a personal development session run by two representatives from Northwest Mutual which focused on career preparation and networking. Also, former NHL player Steve Webb and his wife Teresa spoke to the group about their organization, TeamUp4Community, which highlights the community service work athletic departments are doing across the country.
Next, a representative from each school's SAAC spoke to the entire room about their school's SAAC's proudest accomplishment during the 2013-14 academic year; during which, there was a sharing of ideas for various events to run and helpful hints as far as planning and execution.
Finally, ECC National SAAC Representative, John Galanoudis from Molloy College, went over the proposed NCAA legislation with the entire group to allow them to collaborate and reach a consensus on any controversial piece of legislation.
The meeting wrapped up with a brief discussion about two spring events: ECC SAAC Leadership Retreat and the Spirit Showcase.
