Firebirds Defeated by Dolphins in Conference Match Up

Washington, D.C. - The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team suffered a hard-fought 62-54 loss to Staten Island on Saturday afternoon at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex. Laci Johnson led all scorers with 20 points shooting 50% from the field and marking her fourth 20 plus point game this season. The Firebirds fall to 1-2 in Conference play while the Dolphins improve to 2-1.

The Firebirds and Dolphins were evenly matched through three quarters, with UDC leading 32-28 at halftime. However, Staten Island outscored UDC 19-15 in the final frame to seal the victory.

Laci Johnson came off the bench to score 20 points, converting 9 of 10 free-throw attempts. Kristian Harris contributed 8 points and 7 assists, while Tori Williams added 7 points and 7 rebounds.

Staten Island's Dana Phelan led the way for the Dolphins, scoring 18 points, including five three-pointers. Jenalyse Alarcon added 11 points and 9 rebounds.
