UDC Women’s Basketball Falls to Holy Family University in Season Opener

Staten Island, NY - The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team opened the 2024-2025 season with a 71-51 loss to Holy Family University on Friday evening at the Sports & Recreation Center. Despite a strong performance from Laci Johnson, who led UDC with 18 points, the Firebirds were unable to overcome a tough Holy Family defense.

Holy Family jumped out to an early lead, ending the first quarter up 19-13, and maintained control throughout the game. UDC struggled in the second quarter, managing only 8 points, while Holy Family increased their lead to 40-21 by halftime. The Firebirds showed more life in the second half, but the gap proved too large to overcome.

Laci Johnson was the standout for UDC, recording 18 points and 5 rebounds, while Tori Williams added 13 points and 6 rebounds. Holy Family's balanced offense, led by Ava Morrow and Skyler Searfoss, kept the Firebirds at bay.
