Worcester, Ma.- Senior guard Tyra Coombs scored her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds, but UDC fell short to Assumption 51-60 in their last game of the year. The Firebirds fell to a 3-10 record overall while the Greyhounds improved 7-4 on the season.
Coombs led the Firebirds in both points and rebounds going a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. Freshman guard Halia Ellis went 3-4 from the three-point line and totaled 12 points, her highest scoring game since the first game of the season.
UDC led Assumption in the first quarter outscoring them 10-7, with seven of their 10 points coming from Coombs. Assumption came back to outscore the Firebirds 15-9, going 5-12 from the field and 2-4 from the free throw line to bring the score to 19-22 going into the half.
The last two quarters saw the Greyhounds pull away to win the game 60-51. Assumption was led by Brianna Capacchione who put up a game high 16 points followed by Emme Poulin who came off the bench to score 13 points.
The Firebirds will take a break over the holidays but will be back in action on Friday January 3rdto face off against Saint Rose at 1:00pm.
