UDC Women’s Basketball Falls to Holy Family on the Road

Philadelphia, PA- The University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team was defeated by Holy Family University 72-59 Thursday evening at the Campus Center Gym. The Firebirds fell to 1-4 while the tigers improved to 2-1 on the season.

The Firebirds were led offensively by freshman guard Latvaia Jackson and junior forward Mia Boyd. Jackson scored 14 points going 2-4 at the free throw line and 6-19 from the field. Boyd scored a season high 12 points going 2-2 at the free throw line and 5-8 from the field. 

First Quarter: The Tigers took the early lead after a jump shot from Elizabeth Radley put them on the score board. They went on to lead the entire quarter with a 60% shooting from the field while holding UDC to 35.3%. 

Second Quarter: The Firebirds were able to improve to 41.2% shooting and went neck for neck with the Tigers with five rebounds apiece, but it wasn't enough to close the gap as they went into half down by 10. 

Third Quarter: UDC was able to bring the gap down to only three points after a jump shot was made by Hunter Rowson at 5:49. The tigers were able to pull away in the last few minutes opening the gap to a 53-42 lead going into the last quarter.

Fourth Quarter: The Tigers outshot the Firebirds 19-17 capitalizing on free throws. Holy family was also able to keep UDC to a 30% shooting percentage going 6-20 from the field. The Firebirds would eventually fall 72-59.

Next up UDC will host Bloomfield College on Saturday November 23rdat 1:00pm.
