Washington, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team participated in two community service events over the past week, to start off the 2019-20 school year.

On Saturday August 31st, the Firebirds volunteered with Food for All DC, a non-profit organization that strives to provide emergency food to those who are in temporary situations of need. Their clients are generally elderly citizens, handicapped or single mothers with young children. "Our team helped pack and deliver groceries to the families in need," says Head Coach John Nakpodia. "It was a great way to get involved directly with people who are in need in our community."

The women's basketball team also volunteered with the UDC CAUSES (College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences) and worked on the UDC Green Roof on campus. They helped to weed the garden and get them ready for student research projects. "It was a great experience for the team and allowed us to help our fellow Firebirds have success in the classroom," –JN.
