Natasha Roy's 27 Points Leads the Firebirds to Victory Over the Preseason Favorites

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Facing the Preseason favorites LIU Post for the second time this season,   The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team defeated the Pioneers 64-62. The Firebirds were excellent in the fourth quarter coming back from an eight point deficit. Senior guard Natasha Roy led the Firebirds with a season-high 27 points, nine of which came on 9-of-11 shooting from the free throw line.

The Firebirds never led in the game until junior guard Tyra Coombs made the game winning layup with three seconds left on the clock. She scored seven points and grabbed a team high 10 rebounds. The Firebirds comeback was made possible with defense and great free throw shooting. Defensively UDC held the Pioneers to 11 points on 22 percent shooting. Senior guard Mia-Alexis Lloyd and sophomore guard Maya Thomas both grabbed five rebounds and scored in the double figures, scoring 13 and 12 points respectively. The Pioneers were led by preseason player of the year Sasha Patterson, who finished the game with a double-double of 17 points and 17 rebounds. The Firebirds faced a 34-22 deficit at halftime and proceeded to out score the Pioneers in the second half 42-28.  

The Firebirds will travel to Old Westbury, NY for an ECC matchup vs NYIT on February 9th Tip-off is at 1:00 p.m.
