Tyra Coombs Records Fourth Double-Double of the Season on the Road

Dobbs Ferry, NY – The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team played well leading in most statistical categories, but fell short at Mercy College 66-62 on Saturday afternoon.   The Firebirds outrebounded the Mavericks 44-39, led in assists 13-11 and dominated second chance points 16-2.  UDC was led in scoring by senior guard Mia-Alexis Lloyd who scored 15 points.  Junior guard Tyra Coombs scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her 4th double double of the season. Sophomore guard Maya Thomas added 12 points and 5 rebounds.  Sophomore Mia Boyd forward almost recorded her first double-double by scoring nine points and grabbing a season high nine rebounds,

The Mavericks were led by Amber Brown, who scored 34 points and grabbed five rebounds. The Mavericks shot the ball 39 percent from the field and 25 percent from behind the three point line. Although the Mavericks got to the line more 22-of-28, the Firebirds were more efficient shooting 83 percent 15-of-18 on their free throws. The Firebirds entered the game ranked 18th nationally in offensive rebounds and it showed as on the offensive backboards UDC out rebounded the Mavericks 16-6.

The Firebirds will travel to Brookville, NY for an ECC matchup at LIU Post on February 7th Tip-off is at 5:00 p.m.
