Firebirds Struggle on the Road Resulting in a 63-56 Defeat.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. –  The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team lost a tough away game 63-56 to Roberts Wesleyan in ECC conference action Friday afternoon.

The Firebirds were excellent from the free throw line making 7-of-10 free throws. Sophomore guard Maya Thomas led all scorers with a career-high 25 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Senior guards Mia-Alexis Lloyd and Natasha Roy both put in quality performances with Mia-Alexia Lloyd finishing with 12 points on 2-of-3 from behind the three point line and 5-of-9 shooting from the field. Natasha Roy was focal point of the offense finishing with eight assists and seven points.

The Redhawks were led by Emily Miller who had 24 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks. The Firebirds outscored the RedHawks in the last two quarters, falling five points short. In the second half the Firebirds held the Redhawks to  32 percent shooting and brought the lead down to a five point 56-61 game with 1:30 left in the fourth quarter before the Redhawks hit two free throws to put the game out of reach with 26 seconds left.
