UDC Women’s Basketball Picked 9th in ECC Preseason Poll

WEST BABYLON, NY – The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team was picked to finish 9th of 10 teams in the East Coast Conference in this year's preseason coaches' poll.

The Firebirds are coming off a 2017-18 season that saw them go 4-24 overall and 2-16 in ECC play in John Nakpodia's first year as head coach.  They earned 21 points to beat out last place Mercy College with 17.

Nakpodia does, however, return nine of the 11 student-athletes from last year's squad, including four of the team's top-five scorers and all five of its leading rebounders. He has also added three NCAA Division I transfers during the off-season, who each figure to make an immediate impact on the program.

UDC opens the 2018-19 season tomorrow night at the Tip Off Classic, hosted by Wilmington University (DE). The Firebirds will first take on regional foe Holy Family University at 5 p.m., and the next day at 2 p.m., they will challenge another regional opponent and tournament host, Wilmington Wildcats.
