UDC Loses to King College, 64-45

Bristol, Tennessee: January 14, 2009-- Ashley Deans scored a game-high 22 points as the King College Tornadoes defeated the University of the District of Columbia Firebird Women's Basketball Team, 64-45, tonight in Bristol, Tennessee. King improved to 8-8 with this win as UDC fell to 7-12.

Deans and Beth Raby were the only two King College players in double figures, as Raby contributed 16 points to the final score.

UDC opened the game with a 7-0 run, but King came back with a 9-0 run of their own to take the lead. Sophomore guard Jasmine Rich (Willingboro, NJ) canned a three-pointer to give the Firebirds a brief lead, but Brooke Johnson responded with a three-pointer for King to put them ahead.

King led by 5 at the break, 26 to 21. In the second half, King increased their lead and went on to win by 19. King shot 43 percent (23 for 54) for the game to UDC's 33 percent (19 for 58).

Junior center Lillian McGill (Sumter,SC)  led the UDC scoring, recording her 13th double double of the season with 10 points and 10 boards. Sophomore forward Stacy Griffith (Fredericksburg, VA) and sophomore forward Aida Gueye (Alexandria, VA) added 8 points apiece to round out the scoring leadership.

UDC returns to action on January 20, against the Apprentice School in Newport News, Virginia.
