Church Leads UDC to, 67-63, Win Over Lincoln

 

Lincoln University, PA: November 16, 2009-Junior guard Tiffany Church (Virginia Beach, VA) scored a game-high 24 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, made 6 steals and gave 2 assists to lead the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Basketball Team to a, 67-63, defeat of the Lincoln University Lions in the final round of the James A. Richardson Women's Basketball Tournament tonight at Lincoln.  

 This was a major comeback for Church, who returned to the team from a redshirt year while tending to a knee injury. It was the single best performance of her college career.

 Sophomore center Stacy Griffith (Fredericksburg, VA) followed Church's lead with a double double performance of 15 points, 12 rebounds and 3 steals. Senior guard Nicole Cooper (Fort Washington, MD) added 10 points and 1 assist to the tally.

 Griffith got things rolling when she stole the ball in the opening minute and delivered it to sophomore guard Jasmine Rich (Willingboro, NJ), who went in for a layup to give UDC their first lead of the evening.

 Lincoln was not fazed by the steal and score as they came back to take a 30-24 lead into the half-time break. The score was tied twice and the lead changed 3 times during the first half. Lincoln shot 63 percent (12-19) to UDC's 29 percent (7-24) in the half.

 UDC shot 39 percent (20-51 for the game, as Lincoln shot 55 percent (22-40). The Firebirdsconnected on 72 percent (21-29) of their free throws.

 Sophomore guard Sharay Dubose (Salisbury, MD) led the Lion scoring with 19 points and 6 rebounds, followed by junior guard Dejuana Mosley (Chester, PA) with 17 points and 4 rebounds.

 UDC improved their record to 1-1 with this win. They return to action on November 20, in the Millersville Classic at Millersville University in Pennsylvania.
