Stacy Griffith Selected to Play for U.S. Virgin Islands National Basketball Team

Washington, DC-July 3, 2010-- University of the District of Columbia Firebirds womens basketball player Stacy Griffith has been selected to play for the U.S. Virgin Islands National Team at the upcoming Centrobasket Championship for Women. Griffith, a forward who will be a junior at UDC next season, is currently training with the team in St. Croix before heading to the Centrobasket Championships, which are set for July, 10-14 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

McGill, a Sumter, South Carolina native (Sumter H.S.), led the nation in rebounds among NCAA Division II schools in the 2009-10 season, averaging 12.2 rpg.

McGill, a junior center from Sumter, SC, was the leading rebounder among all NCAA Division II schools for the 2009-10 basketball seasons. Lillian McGill, a junior center for the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Basketball Team was named the Player of the Week by the Black College Sports Page for the week of February 16-22, 2010. McGill, a Sumter, South Carolina native, received this recognition for scoring 20 points and grabbing 16 rebounds against Washington Adventist University on February15, 2010.
Cooper Scores 19 Points in, 75-51, Win over Apprentice

Washington, DC: February 21, 2010-Today was Senior Day at the University of the District of Columbia's Women's Basketball game; a point not lost on senior guard Nicole Cooper (Fort Washington, MD) as she scored 19 points (5-13 three pointers) to pace the Firebirds to a, 75-51, win over The Apprentice School Builders. Cooper was one of three seniors concluding their college playing careers today and adding to her stats that will probably enhance her standing as one of the elite 3-point shooters in the country. She is currently ranked 63rd nationally among NCAA Division II schools in 3-point field goal percentages.

Junior center Lillian McGill (Sumter, SC) led the way with her 17th double double of the season scoring 13 points and pulling down 17 boards. McGill is ranked 6th in the country in rebounds among NCAA Division II schools, averaging 11.6rpg.

It was the second time this season that they handed Adventist a double digit defeat. Trailing by only 6 points at the half time break, the Firebirds were confronted with adjustments made by the Pioneers in the second half that gave them the 28 margin victory.
