UDC LADY FIREBIRDS SINK CENTRAL STATE LADY MARAUDERS 56-44
Ft. Myers, Florida: Their first trip to the Independent Schools Tournament was a very pleasant one for the Lady Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia where they defeated the Central State University Lady Marauders 56-44 in the first round of the Tournament this afternoon. Central jumped out to an early lead that lasted until the 7:12 mark of the first half before UDC tied the score at 16 on a lay-up by Robin Williams.
UDC led 25-21 at the half time
break on 31% (9-2) two point shooting to Central’s 25%
(6-24). UDC’s second half shooting improved to 38% (11-30)
and 34% for the game.
Jaime Brown led the Lady Firebirds with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 4
assists and 5 steals. Robin Williams added 11 points, 1 rebound and
2 assists. Talisha McCullough followed with 7 points and rebounds.
Jennifer Jones scored 6 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and made 3
steals.
Taya Kid paced Central with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Angelica Kimbrough and Natasha Galloway scored 7 points respectively.
UDC advanced to the second round
of the tournament where they will play Puerto Rico- Bayamon on
Saturday at 7 p.m.
