Men’s Tennis Slip to Defeat Against Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis team was beaten 4-2 against a strong Chestnut Hill team on Monday afternoon.

The Firebirds (4-7, 0-0 ECC) playing with one player short were facing a tough task when they gave up the point in doubles play through losses at No. 1 and No. 2.

In singles play UDC were given hope through an inspiring performance by freshman Louis Mangeon. Mangeon took the first set 6-3, but his opponent grabbed the second set 0-6, and a solid third set by the French native saw him steal the win 6-3 to put the Firebirds on the scoreboard.

With that win, next up was Kostiantyn Kalchev with a convincing win at No. 1, taking the game 6-3, 7-6(5).

However, that was not enough as losses at No. 5, then at No. 3, and finally at No. 4 sealed the win for the home side.

The UDC Firebirds will see action Saturday, March 14th at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center when they face Virginia State at 12:30 PM.
