Firebirds Defeated, 5-0 Against No. 2 Queens in East Coast Conference Championship Semifinals
FLUSHING, NY – The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team fell 5-0 to East Coast Conference No. 2 seed Queens (N.Y.) in the 2018 ECC Championship Tournament semifinal, Friday, April 20th, at the QC Tennis Center.
The Firebirds (8-7, 3-3 ECC) faced an uphill battle after losing all three doubles matches to give their opponents a 3-0 lead going into singles only needing two wins for the overall win.
With No. 2 and No. 3 doubles falling to defeats the pressure was on No. 1 pairing of Rok Bozic and Diego Pinto to produce a win. However, their sturdy competitors Mendez and Martinez pulled off a tough 9-8 win.
With the Knights needing two wins in singles play they made quick work, first winning at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0, and then the contest ended with a 6-1, 6-1, win at No. 6 singles.
The District of Columbia who are currently ranked 8th in the East Region are still in contention for the NCAA Division II East Region draw.
