Firebirds Coast to 8-1 Victory over Daemen

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team earned a dominant, 8-1 win over East Coast Conference foe Daemen College Friday afternoon at Miller Tennis Center.

The Firebirds improved to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play as they took the win. With a dominant doubles showing, UDC took all three matches that saw No. 1 doubles Alexis Baguelin and Sebastian Mermersky take an 8-5 win over Wilde and Williamson.

A 3-0 lead going into singles looked even more comfortable when freshman Sebastian Mermersky at No. 1 singles took a resounding 6-2, 6-4 win over David Gonzalez. However, the Wildcats certainly didn't make it easy for the Firebirds when they took No. 4 singles to make the score 4-1 overall.

But the District of Columbia stayed on track to take the remaining four matches with Baguelin earning a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 3 to clinch the overall win for the Firebirds and take them to a 3rd straight win.

Rok Bozic was involved in a tough battle at No. 2 singles which he overcame to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. His match was followed by Josip Marinic at No. 5 and Marco Feligioni at No. 6 who were both tangled in third set tiebreakers. Marinic finished first winning 6-3, 5-7, 10-7, and Feligioni won 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 to give UDC the 8-1 win.

The Firebirds will return to action vs. Roberts Wesleyan, Saturday, April 14th.
