UDC Fighting Comeback in, 6-3 Win Over Post
WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team completed a superb comeback against regional competitors Post University to win 6-3 Saturday afternoon at East Potomac Tennis Center.
The Firebirds (5-6, 0-2 ECC) recovered after yesterday's loss against Queens to finish their week of play with an accomplished 6-3 win against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponents Post University who went 3-7 overall today.
With the doubles partnerships reshuffled once again today, the Firebirds struggled to find their form after a tough battle with Queens yesterday. UDC fell in all three doubles matches to face an uphill fight in singles play.
A resounding win at No. 2 singles settled any UDC nerves as Alexis Baguelin won 6-1, 6-4 over Rajevac to get the Firebirds going in this matchup. The Firebirds went on to win all remaining singles matches with No. 5 Josip Marinic taking a 6-4, 7-5 win against Roessel. Shortly after, Marco Feligioni won at No. 6 to bring the match back into balance with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Alvord.
Next, Ander Murillo at No. 4 took a well-deserved 7-6, 6-1 triumph against Henrikson, and the incredible comeback was complete when the determination of Diego Pinto at No. 3 saw him claim victory, 6-4, 7-5 to give the Firebirds the decisive win over their sturdy opponents. The afternoon finished with No. 1 Rok Bozic securing a tough 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 win to end the day on a high-note.
The Firebirds will be back in action vs. St. Thomas Aquinas, Friday, April 6th at 1PM, where we will honor our five seniors: Rok Bozic, Alexis Baguelin, Diego Pinto, Ander Murillo, and Marco Feligioni.
