UDC Defeated 7-2 Against Concordia

BRONXVILLE, NY – The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team fell to the impressive Concordia College in a 7-2 loss on Saturday afternoon at Meyers Tennis Center.

The Firebirds (4-5, 0-1 ECC) faced two highly ranked regional teams in the past two days. They faced Concordia a member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, CACC, who are now 5-3 overall and a team in fine form going into their conference season.

Doubles was an exciting start as it saw the nationally ranked No. 25 and 26 pairs of UDC's Rok Bozic and Diego Pinto, and Concordia's Evangelisti and Chevalier face off in which saw the No. 25 pair of Concordia take an 8-3 win.

And with No. 2 doubles also beaten, it was left to the No. 3 pair of Marco Feligioni and Josip Marinic to pull off a superb 8-3 win to make the contest closer going into singles play.

With No. 6 singles won by default for Concordia, this left the Firebirds 3-1 down and with losses at No. 2 and 3 the match was already decided. However, strong performances followed with Rok Bozic at No. 1 taking his match to a three set tiebreaker in which he eventually lost 6-7, 6-2, 11-9 to No. 47 in the nation Chevalier.

Sophomore Josip Marinic provided a spark for UDC with an exceptional performance that saw him take a 6-4, 7-5 victory in the sole win for the Firebirds in singles at No. 4.

The day was closed out by a tough battle at No. 5 with senior Marco Feligioni narrowly missing out on a win with a 6-0, 3-6, 10-4 loss to his opponent.

The Firebirds will be looking for a winning response when they face Millersville, Wednesday, March 28th at 2PM.
